Christian Counseling: Frequently Asked Questions

If your Christian faith is an important part of your life, you may be looking for a counselor who understands both your emotional struggles and your desire to follow Christ.

You shouldn't have to choose between evidence-based counseling and your faith. The two can work together.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), I provide evidence-based therapy while thoughtfully integrating Christian faith for clients who desire it. Every counseling relationship is unique, and together we'll determine what is most helpful for your growth and healing.

What is Christian counseling?

Christian counseling thoughtfully integrates evidence-based therapy with biblical truth for clients who desire it.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I use approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), while also making space for conversations about faith, prayer, Scripture, and your relationship with God when those are important to you.

Do I have to be a Christian to work with you?

No.

I welcome clients from a variety of faith backgrounds, as well as those who are unsure what they believe. Every client deserves to feel respected, heard, and cared for.

As a licensed counselor, I am ethically committed to respecting each client's beliefs, values, and worldview. My role is not to persuade you to adopt my beliefs, but to meet you where you are and provide thoughtful, evidence-based care that honors what is important to you.

How do you integrate faith into counseling?

Every client is different.

For some women, faith is woven naturally throughout each session. For others, it simply means having the freedom to talk about God, Scripture, or prayer without feeling like they have to explain why those things matter.

Some clients want to explore difficult questions about God. Others want help applying biblical wisdom to anxiety, relationships, boundaries, forgiveness, or life's challenges.

We'll work together to determine what is most helpful for you.

Will you tell me to "just pray more"?

No.

Prayer is a beautiful and important part of the Christian life, but counseling is not about offering simple answers to complex struggles.

Anxiety, depression, grief, relationship difficulties, and trauma often require thoughtful care. Together we'll explore practical tools, healthier ways of thinking and relating, and—if you desire—how your faith can become a source of strength and hope throughout the healing process.

What if I'm struggling in my faith?

You are not alone.

Many women come to counseling feeling spiritually discouraged, emotionally exhausted, disappointed, or simply unsure where God is in the middle of their pain.

You don't have to have your faith "figured out" before beginning counseling.

This is a place where you can bring your questions honestly without fear of judgment.

Can I be angry with God or have doubts?

Absolutely.

Many faithful believers experience seasons of doubt, disappointment, confusion, grief, or even anger. Those experiences do not disqualify you from God's love.

Counseling is a safe place to wrestle honestly with those questions. God is not threatened by your questions, and neither am I.

How is counseling different from talking with my pastor?

Pastors and licensed counselors serve different—but complementary—roles.

Many of my clients are actively involved in their churches and deeply value their pastors. Counseling simply provides another layer of support.

As a licensed therapist, I help clients understand patterns of thinking, emotions, relationships, trauma, anxiety, depression, and life transitions using evidence-based therapeutic approaches. For clients who desire it, those conversations can also include thoughtful integration of Christian faith.

Many women benefit from having both pastoral support and professional counseling.

What concerns do Christian women commonly bring to counseling?

Many of the women I work with are navigating:

  • Anxiety and chronic worry

  • Overthinking and mental exhaustion

  • Boundaries and people-pleasing

  • Marriage and relationship concerns

  • Parenting stress

  • Grief and loss

  • Life transitions

  • Spiritual discouragement

  • Shame and perfectionism

  • Feeling overwhelmed while trying to hold everything together

How do I know if we're a good fit?

If your mind won't slow down—even when life looks fine on the outside—you are exactly the kind of woman I often work with.

My approach is practical, honest, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based therapy. I believe meaningful change is possible, and for clients who desire it, Christian faith can be thoughtfully integrated into the counseling process in a way that feels authentic rather than forced.

If this sounds like the support you've been looking for, I'd be honored to meet you.

A Final Thought

Whether your faith feels strong today or you're simply trying to find your footing again, you don't have to walk through life's struggles alone. My hope is to provide a place where you feel safe to be honest, where your emotional health is taken seriously, and where your faith can be thoughtfully included as we work toward greater clarity, peace, and healing together.
